Russia Condemns Israeli Strikes on Iran as “Unprovoked and Illegal”
Russia has strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran, labeling them as “unprovoked and illegal” under the United Nations Charter.
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on June 13, 2025, asserting that such military actions against a sovereign UN member state are categorically unacceptable.
The ministry emphasized that Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, missile factories, and military leaders undermine international law and escalate regional tensions.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed grave concern over the situation, noting that President Vladimir Putin is being regularly updated by Russian intelligence and defense officials.
The Russian government has called for restraint from all parties involved and warned against further escalation that could destabilize both regional and international security.
The Israeli operation, named “Operation Rising Lion,” involved over 200 Israeli jets targeting more than 100 sites across Iran, including the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
The strikes resulted in the deaths of several high-ranking Iranian military officials, including General Hossein Salami and General Amir Ali Hajizadeh. Israel justified the operation as a necessary measure to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
In response, Iran has labeled the strikes a “declaration of war” and vowed retaliation. The international community has expressed concern over the potential for further escalation, with calls for diplomacy and restraint from various nations and organizations.
