Residents Urged to Prioritise Joint Health on World Arthritis Day

The Anambra State Government has urged residents to prioritise joint health and seek early medical attention for symptoms of arthritis as the world marks World Arthritis Day on October 12.

World Arthritis Day is observed annually to raise awareness about arthritis and other rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions that affect joints, movement and the daily lives of millions of people worldwide.

The awareness campaign highlights the importance of recognising symptoms early and ensuring that affected individuals receive appropriate medical assessment, treatment and support.

Arthritis encompasses conditions that cause joint inflammation, pain, stiffness and swelling, which can restrict mobility and make everyday activities difficult if not properly managed.

Residents experiencing persistent joint pain, swelling or stiffness have been advised to consult qualified healthcare professionals rather than rely on self-medication or unverified remedies that could delay appropriate treatment.

Maintaining an active lifestyle, engaging in suitable physical exercise and managing body weight can also help support joint health, although individual care recommendations should be guided by medical advice.

The state government, under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, reiterated its commitment to promoting a liveable and prosperous homeland through improved access to health information and public awareness.

Healthcare professionals have also been encouraged to educate residents about arthritis, identify warning signs and guide patients towards appropriate treatment, rehabilitation and long-term care.

Families and communities are equally urged to support people living with arthritis by promoting understanding, discouraging discrimination and helping them access necessary healthcare and assistance.

As the world commemorates World Arthritis Day, residents are encouraged to take joint health seriously, seek timely medical attention and promote greater awareness of musculoskeletal conditions.
