Ex-West Ham and Aston Villa star Nigel Reo-Coker believes Arsenal would prefer a championship showdown against Bayern Munich over a clash with Paris Saint-Germain. This assessment followed the Gunners’ successful advancement from the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday evening. Mikel Arteta’s side secured their position in the final at the Emirates Stadium by overcoming Atletico Madrid with a narrow 1-0 victory, courtesy of a decisive strike from Bukayo Saka.
As the football world awaits the conclusion of the second semi-final between Bayern Munich and PSG, Reo-Coker suggested that Arsenal’s previous success against the German giants provides a psychological edge. Vincent Kompany’s Bayern squad suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Londoners during the tournament’s league phase earlier this year, a result that could influence Arsenal’s preference for the final.
Reflecting on the potential matchups while speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, Reo-Coker highlighted the confidence factor currently surrounding the Premier League leaders:
“They [Arsenal] probably would want to face Bayern Munich [in the Champions League final] because they have got the confidence of beating them.”
With Arsenal already waiting in the final, the winner of the Bayern-PSG tie will determine if the Gunners face a familiar foe they have already conquered this season or a reigning champion in the form of the Parisian side.
