As the Remo Stars travel to play Nasarawa United on Wednesday in a 2024–25 match-day 26 match, coach Daniel Ogunmodede has urged his team to take another step toward winning their first Nigeria Premier Football League championship.
The Ikenne team, who now lead the table with 51 points and are 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals, 3SC, are looking to secure another victory away from home to solidify their position in the title battle.
Ogunmodede’s team responded with a 2-0 victory over Kwara United, allowing them to open up a 10-point lead after 3SC’s 2-2 draw at home against Lobi last Wednesday. With another victory, they might establish an insurmountable lead.
Ogunmodede described their last win against Kwara United as one of their best games this season while also setting the target for their next game.
“One of the best games we have played so far. We played well and in the end, we fought everything to get what we wanted. Did we arrive at 51 points? The next game is to arrive at 54! Can we? Are we going to do that?” Ogunmodede yelled as the players answered in the affirmative.
Their next opponent, Nasarawa United sits in the relegation zone with 27 points, having only won a game in their last five and Ogunmodede remarked about their troubles when asked about the possibility of getting their fifth away win of the season.
“It’s possible, we can take advantage of their situation,” the coach said.
The gaffer also admitted being under pressure in their last game against Kwara United, stressing that the title race will be on till the end of the campaign.
“We were tense before the game after we heard the result of 3SC. We played under severe pressure and we didn’t want the world to know. The boys didn’t show that sign too but we were unlucky not to have buried our chances. We hit the crossbar on about two occasions in the first half.
“Along the line, the pressure we piled paid off and now I think the pressure is out and we can enjoy the moment a little. The focus presently is the next match, for the title it’s till the end of the season.”
Remo Stars have come within reach of the NPFL title in the last two seasons; losing on goal difference to Enyimba in 2023 before finishing second behind Rangers International last season.
