Remi Surutu Declares Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Veteran Nollywood actress Remi Surutu has publicly endorsed the re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Surutu made her position known during the launch of EKO57, a political support group created to mobilise backing for the president’s second-term ambition.
Addressing attendees at the event, the actress said her support for Tinubu dates back to his tenure as governor of Lagos State. She added that public criticism would not deter her from backing the president.
According to Surutu, she remained committed to supporting Tinubu even during the 2023 election despite facing pressure and criticism from some people around her.
“A day before the election in 2023, some people told me it was the same Asiwaju I was following who killed my child,” she said. “But I didn’t care. I still went out the next day to vote. Your vote is your right. Nobody should deceive or intimidate you.”
The actress emphasised that she intends to campaign for the president again and cast her vote for him in the next election.
“I have said it clearly—I am not backing out. I will campaign for him and vote for him,” she said.
Surutu also urged Nigerians to participate in the democratic process without fear, stressing that citizens should exercise their voting rights freely.
During her remarks, the actress attributed some of the country’s current challenges to the actions and attitudes of Nigerians themselves. She also praised Tinubu for what she described as his efforts in managing national issues.
She further commended the president’s family for their involvement in public service, noting their visible presence in different engagements.
The event marked the formal unveiling of EKO57, a group aimed at rallying political support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
