President Tinubu Urges Youth to Harness New Media for Unity, Patriotism

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to leverage new media as a tool for unity, compassion, and patriotism, rather than division.

Speaking on Friday at the opening of the Progressive Digital Media Summit in Abuja, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development”, Tinubu stressed that digital platforms have become vital drivers of economic growth, civic engagement, and social transformation.

“Our youth are not waiting to be invited into the future—they are actively building it,” he said, praising young Nigerians for their creativity and innovation in the digital space.

The President urged young people to use their platforms to inspire, create jobs, foster accountability, and promote national unity.

He cautioned against the dangers of misinformation, urging responsible use of social media: “Let Nigeria’s digital space reflect the values that bind us together: connection, compassion, discipline, and patriotism.”

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to digital infrastructure, broadband expansion, innovation support, and cybersecurity. He described young Nigerians as the nation’s greatest asset, encouraging them to go beyond personal branding and focus on solutions, mentorship, and digital literacy.

Citing the resilience of Nigeria’s female football team as an example, Tinubu said the spirit of determination and unity should guide the digital generation. “This generation must be remembered not just for its potential, but for turning promise into achievement,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, warned of the growing misuse of digital media for political manipulation and disinformation ahead of the 2027 elections.
