President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Mike Ejeagha, hailing him as one of Nigeria’s most illustrious folklorists, songwriters, and custodians of Igbo cultural heritage.
In a message delivered through his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the legendary musician at the venerable age of 95, extending condolences to his family, friends, and legions of admirers nationwide.
“Mike Ejeagha was a rare gem whose music transcended mere entertainment. Through his enchanting storytelling and evocative melodies, he preserved the soul of the Igbo people, weaving ancestral wisdom and timeless values into every song,” President Tinubu said.
The President reflected on the enduring power of Ejeagha’s artistry, noting that his work continues to resonate as a beacon of cultural pride and unity, reminding Nigerians that music possesses the extraordinary ability to heal wounds, inspire hope, and galvanize collective action.
He further commended the Enugu State Government, under Governor Peter Mbah, for their visionary decision to honour Mike Ejeagha during his lifetime—an act that celebrated a living legend and preserved his legacy for future generations.
“As we bid farewell to this maestro, we pray that God grants him eternal peace and solace to all who mourn this great loss,” President Tinubu concluded.
