Premier League Confirms Idrissa Gana Gueye Red Card for Violent Conduct Against Manchester United

The Premier League has clarified the reason behind Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye’s early red card during Monday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Gueye was sent off in the first half following a clash with his own teammate, Michael Keane, after a loose ball from Bruno Fernandes’ shot went wide. The referee deemed the incident “violent conduct” and issued a straight red card.

In an official statement, the Premier League explained: “The referee’s call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane.”

Despite being reduced to ten men, Everton appeared energized by the sending-off, taking the lead before halftime through a spectacular strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

This incident has drawn widespread attention, highlighting both the importance of VAR in officiating and the dramatic impact the red card had on the match’s outcome.
