Portable Accuses First Bank of Attempted Kidnap Over Locked Account Dispute

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has taken to social media to accuse First Bank of Nigeria of allegedly attempting to kidnap him following a dispute over his frozen bank account.

In a now-viral—and later deleted—video shared on his Instagram page, the singer claimed he narrowly escaped what he described as a kidnap attempt during a visit to one of the bank’s branches. According to Portable, the incident occurred after he sought clarification on why his account had been locked.

Alleging that he was being tracked, Portable insisted that he had done nothing wrong. “I’m being trailed from First Bank—who are these people trying to kidnap me?” he said in the video. “What’s my offense? I don’t do Yahoo or fraud. I just asked questions about my account. A customer is always right.”

The singer, known for his unpredictable online behavior and outspoken persona, denied any involvement in fraudulent activities, claiming that the N400 billion reportedly in the account was linked to legitimate business transactions. “That account is a business account, and there’s still more money coming in,” he said. “I just complained, that’s all.”

Portable’s allegations come amid growing online outrage surrounding the recent arrest of outspoken critic VeryDarkMan, who was detained on May 2 after visiting a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) branch to challenge an alleged unauthorized deduction from his mother’s account.

As of now, First Bank has not issued a public response to Portable’s claims.
