In preparation for the state burial of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, security agencies have rolled out large-scale deployments across Katsina State, particularly in Daura, the hometown of the deceased statesman.
The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other sister agencies under the coordination of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 14, confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a peaceful and dignified ceremony.
In a statement on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said the deployment was directed by Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu, who also conveyed the command’s condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina, and the Nigerian nation.
“We recognise the late president’s enormous contributions to national development and his lasting legacy,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) also announced the deployment of 2,807 personnel across strategic locations in Katsina for the burial rites.
The deployment was disclosed by the State Commandant, Aminu Datti, during a briefing with senior officers at the NSCDC headquarters in Katsina.
Commandant Datti stated that the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Abubakar Audi, had directed the nationwide corps to ensure full security coverage and maintain law and order throughout the period of mourning.
“This deployment will cover pre-burial, burial, and post-burial phases to ensure the safety of citizens and dignitaries,” Datti emphasized.
He outlined key operational strategies, including enhanced surveillance, credible intelligence gathering, community engagement, and inter-agency collaboration, all aimed at ensuring a hitch-free farewell.
Security presence has been visibly ramped up in Daura and surrounding areas, with special attention given to:
Umar Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina, where the late president’s body was received;
The royal palaces of the Emir of Katsina and the Emir of Daura;
Federal, state, and local government facilities across Katsina’s 34 Local Government Areas.
Both covert and overt operatives have been deployed, with instructions to conduct operations professionally and in synergy with other agencies, in line with the national mourning period declared by President Bola Tinubu.
“All personnel are to maintain professionalism and vigilance to ensure seamless coordination during this sensitive time,” Datti reiterated.
The state burial of President Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, continues to draw national attention, as tributes pour in from across Nigeria and the international community.
