Police Debunk Viral ‘Wanted’ Poster of Actress Iyabo Ojo
The Nigeria Police Force warns Nigerians against spreading fake news after a false notice linked the Nollywood star to a wanted list.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral “wanted” notice circulating on social media that falsely linked Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo to a police investigation.
The widely shared poster, which claimed it was issued by the Office of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, was declared fake in a statement released by the Force on Thursday.
Posting via its official Facebook page, the police described the content as “false, misleading, and not issued by the Force.” The NPF further stressed that the document did not appear on any of its recognized communication platforms.
“FAKE NEWS ALERT! This ‘WANTED’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading & was never posted on any official NPF platform. Disregard & stop spreading fake news,” the statement read.
The police urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify information directly from official NPF channels before sharing or reacting to reports online.
By calling out the false notice, the NPF reiterated its commitment to combating misinformation, especially content capable of damaging reputations and causing public confusion.
