Police ban use of mini-buses, tricycles for patrols in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has announced a ban on the use of unmarked mini-buses and commercial tricycles for patrol operations across the state.

The directive, issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, comes in response to widespread public complaints alleging that some police tactical teams have been using such vehicles to harass, extort, and intimidate residents.

Describing the practice as highly unprofessional, the Commissioner warned that any officer found violating the directive would face disciplinary action.

A statement from the Command read: “The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a firm directive banning all tactical teams from using unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), for patrol duties across the state.”

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and ethical policing, in alignment with the vision of the Inspector General of Police.
