Court Drops Charges Against Ibom Air Passenger Comfort Emmanson Following Complaint Withdrawal

A Magistrate Court in Ikeja, sitting in Ogba, Lagos, has discharged Comfort Emmanson, the air passenger who was at the center of a recent controversy involving alleged misconduct aboard an Ibom Air flight.

Presiding Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the case on Wednesday after the police formally withdrew all five charges initially filed against Emmanson.

The dismissal followed an application by the prosecution, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, who informed the court that fresh developments had emerged—prompting a decision to halt further legal action. The application for withdrawal was accepted and approved by the court, effectively ending the proceedings.

Minister Confirms Case Resolution After Stakeholder Consultations

The move comes shortly after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), publicly announced that a resolution had been reached between parties involved. Keyamo stated that after wide-ranging consultations with aviation stakeholders and in light of appeals from concerned citizens, it was agreed that the matter would be dropped.

He noted that Ibom Air had agreed to withdraw its initial complaint against Emmanson, who had shown visible remorse since the August 10 incident.

“After considering all aspects, including the regret expressed by the individuals involved and appeals from well-meaning Nigerians, it was resolved that the matter be laid to rest,” Keyamo said.

Emmanson’s Brief Stay in Custody

Comfort Emmanson was arraigned on Monday, where she faced multiple charges related to alleged unruly behavior and assault during the domestic flight. She was granted bail set at ₦500,000 with two sureties, but was briefly remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet her bail conditions immediately.

With the formal withdrawal of the charges, her legal ordeal has now come to an end.

As of press time, further details surrounding the behind-the-scenes negotiations leading to the withdrawal are yet to be released.
