Al Ittihad Ladies have confirmed that their Nigerian international defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has undergone a successful surgical procedure to address a persistent foot injury. The Saudi Arabian club announced that the center-back has already transitioned into the initial phases of her recuperation program under the direct supervision of the team’s specialized medical department.
The 31-year-old elite athlete is projected to remain out of competitive action for several months as she heals. A primary objective for the former Leicester City standout is to achieve full fitness in time for the commencement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Plumptre holds a distinguished history in the continental competition, having played a pivotal role in the Super Falcons squad that secured the trophy during the previous tournament held in Morocco.
This medical intervention follows a difficult period for the defender, whose physical setbacks previously prevented her from participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. By addressing the injury now, both the player and her club are optimistic about a robust return to the pitch, ensuring she remains a key asset for both Al Ittihad and the Nigerian national team during the upcoming international calendar.
