PDP Belongs to Nigerians, Not Individuals — Bode George Slams Leadership Crisis

Party chieftain decries police blockade at PDP secretariat, insists NEC meeting must hold despite internal disputes

Amid rising tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), prominent party elder Olabode George has warned that the party must not be treated as a personal property, calling for unity and resolution through dialogue.

His comments follow a dramatic development on Monday, when police operatives barricaded the PDP National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, preventing members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) from gaining access to hold a pre-scheduled meeting.

According to former PDP National Secretary, Umar Tsauri, the security blockade was allegedly based on an “order from above,” further intensifying the party’s internal crisis.

The planned meeting was part of a lead-up to a broader caucus gathering, but the BoT has since relocated the session to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

Speaking on the matter, George emphasized that the PDP cannot function like a private business owned by a few individuals. He attributed the current standoff to a personal disagreement between two party figures, stressing the need for internal resolution rather than public confrontation.

“The PDP is not a private enterprise. You don’t resolve a crisis by shutting people out. It’s a disagreement between two individuals, and we must sit down and resolve it,” George stated.

As the crisis deepens, party stakeholders and observers await the next move from PDP leadership amid calls for calm, consensus, and constitutional adherence.
