The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that more than 360,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain unclaimed in Osun State.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, disclosed the figure in a statement issued through the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Agboke described the backlog of 360,794 uncollected PVCs as “worrisome,” stressing that thousands of eligible voters risk being excluded from the democratic process if the cards remain unclaimed.
“We are appealing to all eligible voters who, for one reason or another, have not collected their PVCs, to visit any of our 30 local government offices or the Modakeke area office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily to pick up their cards,” he urged.
The Commission emphasized that while the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is ongoing, multiple registrations are strictly prohibited and could lead to the invalidation of voter data.
INEC further appealed to political parties, civil society groups, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to help mobilize citizens for prompt collection, noting that the effectiveness of elections depends not just on registration but also on possession of PVCs.
Agboke reminded residents that without the cards, they would not be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote in future elections.
