The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of its prominent chieftains, Hon. Olubisi Odewumi, from Ife-North Local Government Area.
Odewumi, a former Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during the Rauf Aregbesola administration, reportedly passed away on Thursday morning at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Reacting to the development, Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, described the news as both “shocking and tragic.” In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, Lawal said Odewumi’s death was “too sudden to be believed.”
He praised the deceased as a steadfast party loyalist, noting that his commitment to the APC and his constituency was unmatched.
“To describe the deceased as a core loyal chieftain of the party and a team player during his lifetime is not an overstatement,” Lawal said. “He was always available to contribute his quota to the development of the party, come rain or shine.”
Lawal added that Odewumi’s passing was a colossal loss, stressing that replacing his influence and dedication in the constituency would be “pretty difficult.” He reflected that while Odewumi’s death came at the prime of his life, his political journey showed that “he ran a good race” and achieved notable aspirations.
The chairman likened life to a marketplace where “each patron disembarks at the end of his journey,” while urging party members and the community to take solace in Odewumi’s legacy.
“The untimely death of Honourable Bisi Odewumi pained us to the marrow, but it is impossible to question God’s will,” he said. “On behalf of our members in Ife-North and across Osun State, I pray for strength for his widow, children, and political family to bear this irreparable loss.”
Odewumi’s death has left a vacuum in Osun APC politics, with party leaders and supporters remembering him as a passionate defender of the party’s interests.
