A solitary strike from Victor Osimhen proved the difference on Saturday night as a shorthanded Galatasaray side overcame local rivals Besiktas in a tense 1-0 encounter. Despite being reduced to 10 men, the “Yellow and Reds” managed to secure all three points in the high-stakes Istanbul derby, largely thanks to the clinical finishing of their star center-forward.
The decisive moment arrived just six minutes prior to the halftime whistle. The Nigerian international showcased his trademark physicality and timing, connecting with a powerful header that found the back of the net and ultimately settled the contest. This latest goal further cements the 27-year-old’s vital role in the squad; he has now amassed an impressive tally of 11 goals and four assists across 18 league outings during the current campaign.
Osimhen, who remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes to see out the victory, wasn’t the only Super Eagles representative featured in the match. His compatriot, Wilfred Ndidi, was also in the starting lineup for the “Black Eagles.” This appearance marked Ndidi’s 19th league game of the season for Besiktas, though he was unable to prevent his side from falling to their city rivals.
