Oshoala Pays Tribute to Nkwocha, Dede, Chikwelu for Paving Way in Super Falcons

Bay FC forward Asisat Oshoala has paid heartfelt tribute to former Super Falcons stars Perpetua Nkwocha, Precious Dede, and Rita Chikwelu, acknowledging their influence and impact on her journey with the Nigerian women’s national team.

Speaking during an interview following Nigeria’s triumphant campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Oshoala expressed deep appreciation for the trailblazing roles played by the trio.

“Right now, if you Google players to see who has the most goals in the clubs, you have the likes of Perpetua Nkwocha,” Oshoala remarked.

“Those are the people that actually paved the way for someone like me to be able to come into the Super Falcons and enjoy certain things.”

The former Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona striker also mentioned legendary goalkeeper Precious Dede and midfield stalwart Rita Chikwelu as key figures in shaping the Super Falcons’ legacy.

“You have the goalkeeper Precious Dede, Rita Chikwelu — so many Super Falcons players. I was fortunate to play with some of them before they retired,” she added.

Oshoala, now 30, is one of the most decorated African female footballers in history, having won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award six times — a record achievement.
