Oral Sex Doesn’t Make You Less of a Man” – BBNaija’s Elozonam Challenges Toxic Masculinity

Former Big Brother Naija star and actor, Elozonam Ogbolu, is opening up about the harmful stereotypes that continue to define masculinity, particularly in Nigerian society. In a recent episode of the In The Company Of Men podcast, hosted by Ikhane Akhigbe, Elozonam tackled long-standing myths about what it means to be a man, calling out the toxic ideals that often restrict men from showing vulnerability or care.

Addressing common misconceptions, he stated that acts like giving oral sex to women, cooking, or doing the grocery shopping do not make a man less masculine. Instead, he emphasized the importance of emotional intelligence, care, and flexibility in relationships.

“Some guys think giving a woman head isn’t masculine. It’s wild. Serving a woman, buying groceries, or simply being helpful—many men in our society believe those actions somehow strip them of their manhood,” he said.

He went on to challenge these outdated notions:

“If your wife asks you to pick up a sanitary pad, some men will feel uncomfortable or insulted. But why? Why can’t you buy that for your woman? Why can’t you cook for her or go down on her? These things don’t make you any less of a man. They make you a supportive partner.”

Elozonam also highlighted a less-discussed factor in the perpetuation of toxic masculinity—women who romanticize harmful traits in men.

“Toxic masculinity is sometimes reinforced by women too,” he noted. “Some women crave that toxicity—they equate it with love or strength. I’ve seen women say things like, ‘If he doesn’t beat you, he doesn’t love you.’ That mindset is deeply troubling. It’s damaging for everyone.”

He pointed out that both men and women need to break free from these damaging beliefs if society hopes to foster healthier relationships and a more balanced understanding of masculinity.
