Political tension deepened on Sunday in Abuja as Peter Obi raised concerns over what he described as persistent interference in opposition politics, accusing the current administration of President Bola Tinubu of fueling internal crises across parties.
Obi made the remarks shortly after formally aligning with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, in what he described as a renewed push to build a stable political platform.
He claimed that his movement across political parties had consistently been followed by internal disputes and litigation, which he linked to external influence, and said such patterns had weakened opposition structures.
Obi explained that his latest move was driven by the need to avoid further divisions, adding that the NDC must be shielded from similar crises and internal court battles.
He also appealed for unity within the new platform, urging members to focus on party building rather than disputes.
In addition, he called on the judiciary to be mindful of the impact of political litigation on party stability, stressing the need to strengthen democratic processes without undermining party cohesion.
