Ogun APC Suspends Gbenga Daniel, Kunle Folarin Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has suspended two of its members, including former governor Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin, over allegations of anti-party activities.

In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Nuberu Olufemi, the suspension followed recommendations from their respective wards after disciplinary panels were convened to investigate the allegations.

At a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) held on August 19 and chaired by the State Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, with 16 members in attendance, the suspensions were ratified.

Sanusi explained that the decision was taken “in exercise of the powers of the party to safeguard discipline and protect its constitution.”

According to him, Ward 4 in Sagamu Local Government had set up a disciplinary committee to probe allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities against Senator Daniel, while Ward 6 constituted a similar panel to investigate Hon. Folarin.

“The committees wrote formally to the members under investigation, inviting them to appear before the panels to defend themselves or seek clemency from the party.

Unfortunately, both members neither responded to the invitations nor provided any written defense. They also failed to attend the scheduled hearings where they were expected to present their cases,” Sanusi said.

He added that the committees nonetheless proceeded with their investigations, hearing from witnesses and reviewing available documents.

The panels further reported that the accused members allegedly attempted to intimidate party members, warning them not to cooperate with the inquiries, while also using their political influence to pressure petitioners into withdrawing complaints.

“In light of these deliberate acts of non-cooperation and interference, the committees concluded that their continued participation in party activities could compromise the integrity of the disciplinary process. Consequently, indefinite suspensions were recommended,” the statement read.

The State Working Committee subsequently endorsed the suspensions, stressing that the action underscores the APC’s determination to enforce internal discipline and uphold the sanctity of its constitution.
