The final conversation between late Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, and his daughter Kira Taiwo has emerged following the actor’s death at 66.
Kira shared screenshots of their private conversation on her Instagram Story on Monday, a day after the veteran actor died.
The exchange, dated July 26, showed Ogogo reassuring his daughter despite his own health struggles.
In the messages, the actor asked about Kira’s wellbeing after learning that she had been crying.
He told her that seeing her and her sisters happy gave him strength and urged her to remain strong.
Ogogo also encouraged his daughter to put her faith in Allah, assuring her that he was remaining strong.
Kira responded by telling her father that she trusted in Allah and loved him.
Ogogo replied affectionately, calling her his princess and returning the sentiment.
The exchange has taken on added significance following the actor’s death on Sunday, August 23, after a battle with stage-four cancer.
Kira and her sister, Lima, had earlier spoken publicly about their father’s illness and sought support as his condition deteriorated.
Lima said the family only became aware of the seriousness of his condition about three weeks before his death, noting that his appearance had not revealed the extent of his illness.
Kira also disclosed that doctors had stopped his chemotherapy as the family explored other treatment options.
Ogogo died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday.
His death was announced by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who said the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro, Ogun State.
A lying-in-state ceremony was scheduled for Monday, August 24, at 11 a.m. at the Pavilion in Ilaro, ahead of his burial according to Islamic rites.
Ogogo leaves behind a career spanning more than four decades and over 300 film credits. He was widely recognised as one of the prominent figures in Yoruba cinema.
