NNPP Chairman Denies Kwankwaso’s Defection to ADC

The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has dismissed rumours suggesting that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Dungurawa described the speculation as unfounded and politically motivated, saying it stemmed from opponents who fear Kwankwaso’s growing influence.

“Kwankwaso is not the type of politician who makes hasty decisions without careful thought,” he said. “The idea of him joining the ADC or any other party is a miscalculation by those unsettled by the strength of the Kwankwasiyya Movement”.

He added, “Don’t forget, Kwankwaso is widely regarded as the political leader of Northern Nigeria. Many politicians, especially in this region, look up to him. It is both premature and malicious to suggest he is defecting at this time”.

He added, “Why are Nigerian politicians panicking over Kwankwaso’s movements? They should remain calm — the time for any decision has not yet come. We are deliberate and calculative people; we do not take action without due consideration.

On speculations that Kwankwaso had been seen engaging with members of other political camps, Dungurawa responded, “As a politician with a PhD in the field, do you expect him to hide or avoid people? Certainly not. He can speak with anyone, it’s normal political conduct and doesn’t imply anything”.

Dungurawa concluded by urging the public and political observers to remain focused on facts rather than assumptions, stressing that any major political move by Kwankwaso would be made known in due time.
