Nigerian Air Force Sets Up Forward Operational Base in Akwa Ibom to Boost Security in South-South Region

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inaugurated a Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Akwa Ibom State as part of efforts to strengthen its operational presence and security capabilities in the South-South region.

The land for the new base was generously donated by the Akwa Ibom State government, underscoring the state’s commitment to national security. Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), announced this development during a courtesy visit to Governor Umo Eno at the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.

According to a statement released by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, the new FOB is expected to significantly enhance air power projection and maritime security, particularly along the vital Gulf of Guinea corridor.

Air Marshal Abubakar hailed the state government’s contribution as a major boost to Nigeria’s security infrastructure. He emphasized that the base would not only improve safety for residents and businesses but also serve as a catalyst for civil commerce, investment, and tourism in the region.

“The base will further assure the safety and security of persons and property and foster Akwa Ibom as a destination for investment and tourism,” the CAS remarked.

Reaffirming the NAF’s dedication to protecting lives and assets, Abubakar noted that the new operational base would reinforce existing security frameworks and boost investor confidence in the South-South.

Governor Umo Eno welcomed the visit and commended the Air Force’s strategic focus on Akwa Ibom. He described the partnership as vital to the state’s growing role in Nigeria’s overall security landscape.

“We believe that a safe and secure society is the bedrock of development, and we are glad to partner with the NAF to achieve that objective,” Governor Eno said, pledging continued support for the military’s efforts.
