Nelfund Warns Students Against Fake Loan Portal Online

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has raised a serious alarm over a fraudulent online student loan portal masquerading as an official platform.

In a statement released Monday in Abuja, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications for NELFUND, confirmed that messages circulating claim President Bola Tinubu had ordered the reopening of NELFUND’s application portal.

The message included a deceptive URL: “https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/”.

NELFUND emphasized that this link is unauthorized and fraudulent, urging students not to provide personal or financial details.

According to the agency, its only legitimate application gateway remains “https://nelf.gov.ng” .

The fund, which began operations in April 2024 under the Student Loans Act, has already disbursed loans to over 100,000 students

Officials have asked students, parents, and guardians to report suspicious portals via email to info@nelf.gov.ng and through its verified social media channels: X (@nelfund), Instagram (@nelfund), Facebook, and LinkedIn

This advisory highlights a growing cybersecurity concern, showing how scammers exploit digital education initiatives to gather sensitive data. NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the safeguarding of its applicants.
