Navy warns pirates to stay clear of Nigerian waters

The Flag Officer in Charge of the Eastern Naval Command, Rear Adm. Olusola Oluwagbire, has warned sea pirates operating in the waterways to steer clear or be ready to be smoked out by force.

Oluwagbire issued the warning on Thursday during his first visit to NNS Jubilee in Akwa Ibom’s Ikot Abasi Local Government Area and other units.

“We are coming to smoke sea pirates out of the waterways, we will get them and we will roast them,” the FOC said while speaking with journalists during the inspection.

The FOC also said that he is on ground to get all the units to know what is happening in his command.

He charged the commander to rejig the operations of the command, and ensure that the boats are out there as it should be for effective coverage of the waterways.

The FOC plead with the public to provide beneficial information to the command in order for criminal individuals in society to be apprehended.

“There is one aspect of security that most people don’t understand, it is not only the security agency’s business but it’s everybody’s business.

“If you see something, share with the security agencies, so that it can help better the society. We are together, we will do it and make the waterways safe and better,” Oluwagbire said.

The Forward Operating Base, Ibaka, Mbo LGA, the projected Naval base at Essene, Ikot Abasi LGA, and the Nigerian Navy Military School, Ikot Ntuen were all inspected by the FOC.

Oluwagbire also visited the new Girls Model Secondary School in Onna LGA’s Awa Ubium and the Utaewa Jetty in Ikot Abasi.
