Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has visited Bin Mper community in the Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area following a deadly attack on August 18, 2026, which claimed several lives and left others injured.
The governor, who visited the community on Thursday, described the attack as barbaric, senseless and unacceptable, while assuring residents that his administration would intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further bloodshed.
Addressing grieving residents, particularly women who gathered to receive him, Mutfwang said the incident was deeply personal and amounted to an attack on the state’s leadership and its determination to restore lasting peace.
He said the attack occurred shortly after the state had further strengthened its security architecture in collaboration with security agencies, including the new General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Mutfwang disclosed that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack, assuring residents that the government would work with security agencies to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
The governor pledged to expand intelligence-led security operations and deploy additional measures to protect communities considered vulnerable to attacks.
He also gave a firm assurance that his administration would not allow residents to be driven from their ancestral lands, stressing that the government would do everything within its constitutional powers to protect their homes, livelihoods and right to remain on their land.
Mutfwang condoled with families who lost loved ones and prayed for the recovery of those injured in the attack.
He commended Plateau youths for their courage and contribution to community-based security efforts, while urging them to remain peaceful, vigilant and law-abiding.
The governor stressed that defeating insecurity would require sustained cooperation among local communities, traditional institutions, government authorities and security agencies.
Before visiting the affected community, Mutfwang received a security briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army.
He later paid a condolence visit to the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness Da. John Putmang Hirse, where he expressed sympathy to the traditional ruler and the wider Mwaghavul community over the killings.
The monarch condemned the attack as deliberate and senseless, noting that the assailants struck while residents were asleep despite the area’s history of peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities.
Also speaking, the President of the Mwaghavul Development Association Women’s Wing, Mrs Grace Joseph Gora, expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and appealed for calm.
She urged women in the community to continue supporting government and security agencies as efforts intensify to restore peace and prevent further attacks across Mangu and other vulnerable parts of Plateau State.
