Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has rejected reports attributing comments to him about Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese Football Federation, describing them as “fake news.”
The Portuguese coach was linked to statements concerning the reported tensions involving Ronaldo and the national team.
However, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano quoted Mourinho on X on Thursday as saying: “Too much fake news on my comments about Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese Federation. I did not make any comment,”
Mourinho’s denial comes amid renewed attention on Ronaldo’s situation with Portugal following his unexpected exit from the team’s camp in Copenhagen.
The 41-year-old left ahead of the UEFA Nations League encounter with Denmark after uncertainty over his position under head coach Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway before missing a subsequent training session.
The forward has said he will later reveal why he decided to leave the camp.
