Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed Ruben Dias and Erling Haaland as the club’s current captains.
However, the Italian manager is still looking to strengthen the leadership group before the summer transfer window closes, with plans to bring in “a captain”.
City have experienced a significant loss of senior figures this summer, with Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Nathan Aké and Rodri all leaving the club.
Their departures have reduced the experience within the squad, a situation highlighted by City fielding their youngest opening-day starting XI since 2008 in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Maresca believes the squad still has experienced players and leaders but wants to add further leadership before the transfer deadline.
He said: “We have experienced players.
“For sure, we have leaders. Now we need to wait four or five more days until the transfer window closes to see if we can add one or two more captains to Ruben [Dias] and Erling [Haaland], who at the moment are the two captains.”
