A man in his 90s is suspected of fatally stabbing two elderly residents at a nursing home in Dentergem, western Belgium, local mayor Koenraad Degroote confirmed on Friday.
Another resident is currently in critical condition in the hospital following the attack.
All the victims were at least 90 years old, and the suspected assailant was also a resident of the facility in his 90s, Degroote added.
The local prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest of an individual in connection with the killings and the hospitalization of another victim.
Both the mayor and the prosecutor’s office have withheld further details, stating they are awaiting information from an investigating judge.
