Concerns over staff shortages, unpaid entitlements and poor facilities have prompted resident doctors at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, to demand immediate action from the authorities.
Under the Association of Resident Doctors, the medical practitioners said prolonged neglect and unfulfilled commitments were taking a toll on their welfare and professional dignity.
In a statement signed by ARD President, Dr. Mustapha Adedapo A., and General Secretary, Dr. John Stephen, the doctors highlighted severe understaffing, outstanding minimum wage arrears, unpaid allowances and dilapidated call rooms.
“Today, resident doctors of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, stand united. We took an oath to save lives, but today, we are forced to take a stand to save our own profession and dignity”, the statement said.
The association cautioned that doctors working under exhausting and inadequate conditions could struggle to provide the standard of care patients deserve.
It said its demands were focused on basic welfare, fair remuneration and proper funding for medical residency training.
“We are not asking for luxuries; we are demanding basic human dignity, fair compensation and the proper funding of medical residency training”, the association stated.
The doctors called on the Oyo State government, hospital management and other stakeholders to urgently resolve the outstanding issues and improve conditions at the facility.
They maintained that better welfare and a conducive working environment would enable doctors to concentrate on their primary duty of saving lives.
