The New York Knicks have knocked out defending NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, from the playoffs with a dominant 119-81 win, advancing to their first Eastern Conference finals in 25 years.
Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby each scored 23 points as the Knicks wrapped up a 4-2 series victory, setting up a clash with the fourth-seeded Indiana Pacers for a spot in the NBA Finals. The best-of-seven series will tip off at 01:00 BST on Thursday, with the Knicks hosting Game 1.
Six Knicks players scored in double figures, and the 38-point margin marked the largest playoff victory in franchise history. Mikal Bridges contributed 22 points, including four three-pointers, Karl-Anthony Towns added 21, and Josh Hart recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
The Celtics, who had been without star forward Jayson Tatum since game four due to a ruptured right Achilles tendon—a serious injury expected to sideline him for approximately nine months—had shown resilience by winning game five. However, the Knicks were unrelenting at Madison Square Garden, backed by a spirited home crowd that included celebrities Timothée Chalamet, Lenny Kravitz, Ben Stiller, and Spike Lee.
New York led 26-20 after the first quarter, but a dominant second quarter saw them outscore Boston 38-17 to enter halftime with a commanding 64-37 lead, effectively ending the Celtics’ hopes of a comeback.
Jaylen Brown led Boston with 20 points, while Al Horford and Payton Pritchard added 10 and 11 points respectively. Game five hero Derrick White, who scored 34 in the previous outing, was limited to just eight points.
