Keyamo, Gusau Hail Super Falcons’ WAFCON Triumph as Symbol of Nigerian Resilience

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, have both commended the Super Falcons following their remarkable 3–2 victory over Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at exactly 2:40 p.m., with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade proudly hoisting the WAFCON trophy to the applause of government officials and fans. Speaking at the airport, Keyamo described the team’s performance as a powerful representation of the “Nigerian spirit.”
Reflecting on the intense match atmosphere, he noted, “Those girls weren’t just playing against 11 players—they were up against over 50,000 fans. But they rose to the occasion. That win wasn’t luck; it was earned through grit and determination.”
He praised the squad for overcoming adversity and dominating the game after an early setback, adding that the team’s performance showcased the legendary resilience Nigerians are known for across Africa. Keyamo also highlighted the high-level preparations made to welcome the champions and stressed that such commitment and spirit should be replicated in every sector of the nation.
In his remarks, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau described the victory as a moment of immense national pride, especially considering the challenges the team faced. Interim Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen also lauded the Falcons’ fitness and fighting spirit, saying their comeback was never in doubt. The win marks Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.
