Ahead of the local government elections in Katsina State on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the state police command has announced a restriction on both human and vehicular movement from 6 am to 4 pm on the day of the poll.
The Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, made the announcement late Thursday, explaining that the measure is intended to ensure law and order during the election process.
The restriction will be enforced to safeguard the electorate and ensure a peaceful environment for voting. DSP Sadiq emphasized that the police, under the leadership of Commissioner Allyu Abubakar Musa, have made adequate security arrangements to enforce the movement restrictions and ensure the safety of voters and election officials.
“Residents and all stakeholders are urged to comply with these movement restrictions to promote a peaceful and transparent electoral process,” he said, while also encouraging eligible voters to come out and participate in the election in a peaceful and orderly manner.
In a related development, the Chairman of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission, Lawal Alhassan, briefed the press on Thursday, announcing that the commission had begun distributing sensitive election materials across the state’s 34 local government areas. Alhassan stated that this distribution would begin early, especially to remote areas, to avoid delays on election day.
“We have made adequate arrangements for the safe and timely delivery of these materials,” Alhassan assured. The commission has recruited and trained over 20,000 ad-hoc staff to handle the election across 6,652 polling units in the state. He further assured the public that there would be no issues with the late arrival of materials, which had been a concern in previous elections.
For ease of communication, dedicated mobile phone lines will be made available for voters to lodge any genuine complaints on election day.
