In a gesture reflecting the spirit of Ramadan and the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi has granted a state pardon to 12 convicted inmates in Jigawa State.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, who explained that the pardon followed recommendations from the Jigawa State Advisory Council of Prerogative of Mercy.
This process is in accordance with Section 5(1) of the Advisory Council of Prerogative of Mercy Law, Cap A2, Laws of Jigawa State 2012, and executed under the authority of Section 212(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
The pardon is intended to promote reconciliation, reintegration, and social harmony, highlighting the Jigawa State Government’s commitment to fostering goodwill and community peace.
Barrister Fanini urged the beneficiaries to maintain exemplary behaviour and avoid further legal infractions, noting that the inmates “exhibited good conduct and had only a few months remaining to complete their sentences.”
Those granted clemency include Ibrahim Adamu Isa, Sa’idu Umar, Adamu Musa, Habibu Musa, Yusuf Ahmed, Shu’aibu Adamu, Abdullahi Ya’u, Yahaya Jana’u, Abdul Hamisu, Garba Miko, Salisu Isa, and Aliyu Ibrahim.
The pardon underscores the state’s dedication to mercy and rehabilitation, aligning with the festive values of compassion, forgiveness, and renewed beginnings during Eid-el-Fitr
