JAMB Admits Server Error Affected 387,000 UTME Results, Reschedules Exams

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged a technical error that compromised the integrity of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results at 157 centres across Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede revealed that over 387,000 candidates were affected due to server issues in the board’s Lagos and Owerri zones. The fault, traced to one of JAMB’s two technical service providers, prevented candidates’ responses from being uploaded during the exam’s first three days.

Specifically, 206,610 candidates from 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 from 92 centres in the Owerri zone were impacted. The issue was discovered after results had already been released on May 9.

To rectify the situation, JAMB announced a rescheduled UTME for all affected candidates beginning Friday, May 16. Notifications will be sent via SMS, email, and phone calls, and candidates are advised to reprint their examination slips to confirm new dates and venues.

Prof. Oloyede apologized for the disruption, stating, “As registrar of JAMB, I hold myself personally responsible, including for the negligence of the service provider.”

He also assured that JAMB is coordinating with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to prevent any scheduling conflicts with the ongoing WASSCE exams.

An analysis of the 2025 UTME results showed that over 78% of candidates scored below 200 out of a possible 400 points.
