Iyabo Ojo Confirms EFCC Invitation Over Money Spraying at Daughter’s Wedding

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that she was recently invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with the spraying of cash at her daughter Priscilla’s wedding.

Taking to Instagram on May 6, 2025, the actress addressed growing speculation and concern over her well-being following viral reports of her visit to the anti-graft agency.

“Good afternoon, lovely people,” she began. “Following recent media reports, social media chatter, and a flood of calls and messages, I find it necessary to clarify the situation regarding my invitation by the EFCC.”

Iyabo revealed that she received the official invitation while abroad in the UK and honored it promptly upon her return to Nigeria. On May 5, 2025, she appeared at the EFCC office, where she was questioned about various aspects of her personal and professional background.

During the session, EFCC officials presented her with video evidence from her daughter’s wedding, showing guests spraying both naira and foreign currency—a practice the agency informed her is prohibited under Nigerian law.

“I was shown footage from the event, featuring friends, colleagues, and well-wishers spraying money. I honestly believed that only the abuse or mutilation of the naira was illegal. I was surprised to learn that spraying any currency—including foreign ones like the dollar—is also an offense,” she explained.

Although she was allowed to leave the same day, her personal lawyer, O.I. Salami, was present and may continue to represent her should the EFCC require further engagement.

Iyabo used the moment to issue a public advisory, urging Nigerians to reconsider the cultural norm of spraying money at celebrations.

“Given this experience, I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria. It’s probably time we rethink this long-standing tradition. Let’s stay cautious and avoid unnecessary legal troubles.”

Her statement has since ignited online debates around the legality and cultural relevance of money spraying at Nigerian parties—a deeply ingrained tradition now facing scrutiny under the lens of modern regulation.
