The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, starting with the online pre-registration phase today, Monday, August 18, 2025.

In a statement posted via its official X handle, INEC said eligible Nigerians can now begin their registration online through the dedicated portal www.cvr.inecnigeria.org. The online phase will run ahead of the physical registration exercise, which is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025.

According to the commission, in-person registration will take place across its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices, ensuring accessibility for all prospective voters.

The exercise is open to:

  • New voters aged 18 and above,
  • Those seeking to transfer or collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs),
  • And individuals needing replacement for lost or damaged PVCs.

INEC cautioned Nigerians against multiple registrations, stressing that violators risk stiff penalties.

The electoral body also urged citizens to take advantage of the exercise, emphasizing that voter registration is key to inclusive participation in the democratic process.

For inquiries, Nigerians are advised to contact the INEC Call Centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or use the short code 4632.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening democracy, INEC assured that every eligible voter will have the opportunity to register ahead of the next round of elections.
