INEC Flags Fake Election Notice on Governorship Candidates in Six States

In a fresh warning against electoral misinformation, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a fake online publication purporting to announce governorship candidates in six states.

The Commission, in a notice on its official X account, @inecnigeria, clarified that the document did not originate from or receive authorisation from the electoral body. It urged Nigerians to disregard the publication and refrain from circulating it.

The states named in the fraudulent announcement are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

INEC warned that misleading electoral information could cause unnecessary confusion, stressing the importance of verifying political and election-related claims before sharing them.

The electoral body advised the public to rely on its verified communication channels for authentic updates. These include its website, www.inecnigeria.org, its X and Instagram handles, @inecnigeria, its Facebook page, INEC Nigeria, and its news portal, www.inecnews.com.

For enquiries and further clarification, INEC provided its call centre number, 0700-2255-4632, short code 4632, telephone numbers 090844444333 and 09050858629, and email address iccc@inec.gov.ng.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate electoral information, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and consult official sources for credible updates on governorship candidates and other electoral developments.
