In a Daring Operation, Nigerian Troops Eliminate 45 Bandits in Niger State

In a dramatic and decisive military engagement, troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by hybrid forces and backed by real-time intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), killed at least 45 bandits during a fierce firefight in Iburu village, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to security sources, DSS operatives intercepted credible intelligence late Friday indicating that dozens of armed terrorists riding motorcycles were advancing toward Iburu and surrounding communities.

Acting swiftly, the DSS alerted Nigerian Army units stationed nearby, prompting immediate deployment.

The confrontation, which unfolded under cover of dusk, reportedly lasted several hours. At least 45 assailants were neutralised, with villagers confirming that over 40 bodies of suspected bandits were recovered after the clash.

Dozens of their motorcycles were also destroyed, effectively crippling their mobility and operations in the area.

Tragically, the operation was not without losses on the side of the security forces. Two members of the hybrid units — comprising local vigilantes and civilian volunteers working alongside the military — were killed in action.

Four others sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at a government hospital in Minna, the state capital.

The successful operation comes amid escalating concerns over the persistent threat posed by bandit groups in parts of North-Central Nigeria. Shiroro LGA, in particular, has endured repeated attacks on villages, farmlands, and local markets.

This latest success is being hailed by residents and local officials as a critical morale boost and a step toward restoring stability in the region.
