I’m not leaving APC – Kebbi Governor dismisses defection rumours
Governor Nasir Idris reaffirms loyalty to APC, says detractors unhappy with development strides in Kebbi
Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has dismissed reports linking him to a planned defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring the party remains his political home.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi, the governor described the viral report as “false and malicious,” aimed at undermining the developmental strides of his administration.
“I have no moral justification to even think of leaving the APC. I will, InSha Allah, be the last man standing in this great party,” Idris declared.
Flanked by top state officials including his deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, and former governor Sa’idu Dakingari, Idris said the report was the handiwork of “mischief-makers uncomfortable with the state’s progress.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pledged continued collaboration with the federal government, stressing that Kebbi remains a stronghold for the APC.
“I will sustain a robust and mutual relationship with President Tinubu. Kebbi is for APC, and it’s for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and myself,” he said.
The state’s APC Chairman, Abubakar Kana, also debunked the defection claims, reiterating the party’s support for Governor Idris and President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Other party stakeholders present echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing unity and support for the APC-led administration at both state and federal levels.
