Germany’s inflation rate eased to 2.0% in June, surprising analysts who had anticipated a rise, according to preliminary figures released Monday by the federal statistics agency Destatis. This marks a slight decline from May’s 2.1% inflation, defying expectations of an increase to 2.2% as forecasted by economists surveyed by FactSet.
The unexpected slowdown in inflation adds a new dimension to the European Central Bank’s ongoing deliberations over whether to pause its extended cycle of interest rate hikes aimed at curbing rising prices.
