The Federal Government has launched an investigation following a viral video alleging medical negligence at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, where accident victims were purportedly left unattended at the hospital’s emergency unit.
The disturbing footage, widely circulated on social media, was recorded by a good Samaritan who claimed he had rescued the victims from a road crash and rushed them to the facility for urgent care.
In the video, the man alleged that hospital staff initially refused to render assistance, with one nurse reportedly citing a lack of gloves as a reason for inaction.
The video sparked public outrage, especially as it showed some of the injured victims hobbling into the emergency ward without support, while others appeared to receive delayed aid.
In a swift response on Sunday, FMC Jabi’s Public Relations Officer, Obadiah Gana, issued a statement confirming that the hospital had opened a formal inquiry into the incident.
“Preliminary findings show that the emergency department was fully stocked with essential supplies, including gloves, resuscitation kits, medication, trolleys, and wheelchairs,” the statement said.
Gana added that ongoing internal investigations involve interviews with staff on duty and other stakeholders to establish a complete account of what transpired. He assured the public of the hospital’s unwavering commitment to quality healthcare and transparency.
FMC Abuja, he noted, has established multiple feedback mechanisms for public engagement, including hotline numbers, QR codes, and dedicated email channels displayed within the hospital premises.
The Ministry of Health is expected to receive a full report upon completion of the investigation, as the Federal Government reiterates its zero-tolerance policy for negligence, especially in emergency care scenarios.
