The Federal Government has unveiled the Tax Reform Challenge, a nationwide competition designed to engage Nigerian students in creative conversations about the country’s ongoing tax reform efforts.
Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, announced the initiative on Friday via his official X handle, describing it as part of the government’s broader strategy to promote public awareness and inclusive participation in Nigeria’s evolving fiscal landscape.
According to Oyedele, the competition is open to undergraduates in all tertiary institutions across Nigeria as well as graduates currently undergoing the NYSC program or awaiting mobilisation.
He explained that the challenge seeks to raise awareness, enhance tax education, and encourage constructive youth-led dialogue on the recently signed tax reform laws, which represent the most comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system in decades.
“We want young Nigerians to understand the reforms, engage with them, and share innovative ideas that can shape the future of our fiscal system,” Oyedele said.
Competition Details and Prizes
Participants are required to study the new tax reform laws and submit a creative entry such as an article, video, podcast, radio piece, or social media post published between July 1 and December 31, 2025, that relates to Nigeria’s tax reform journey.
Entries will be judged based on creativity, factual accuracy, and public engagement value, with Oyedele emphasizing that critical perspectives on the reform are also welcome, as long as they are educative, engaging, and evidence-based.
Winners stand a chance to win a total of ₦10 million in cash prizes, with the first prize winner receiving ₦5 million, second prize ₦3 million, and third prize ₦2 million.
Beyond cash rewards, the top 10 finalists from each geopolitical zone will receive gadgets, internships or employment opportunities, and recognition as Tax Reform Youth Ambassadors, a title that comes with the responsibility of promoting fiscal literacy and youth participation in national tax conversations.
