FG Commits to Completing Kano-Maradi Railway Project by 2026, Says Tinubu
President Tinubu outlines plans to complete the 284-kilometre railway linking Nigeria and Niger, alongside major road rehabilitation projects.

President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government is fully committed to completing the 284-kilometre Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi railway project by 2026.
The announcement was made during a visit to Katsina State, where the president also launched the Katsina State Agricultural Mechanisation Centre and a 24-kilometre Eastern Bypass in the Tashar Bala area.
The railway project, which will connect Kano State in Nigeria’s northwest to Maradi in Niger Republic, aims to improve the transportation of goods and people, easing the strain on Nigeria’s road infrastructure. The completion of the project is expected to bring significant benefits to the region by enhancing economic connectivity between the two countries.
President Tinubu also highlighted the ongoing rehabilitation of key roads, including the Martabar Kankara–Dutsinma–Katsina Road, Zaria–Hunkuyi–Dabai Road, and Kafur–Malumfashi–Dayi–Gidan Mutum Daya Roads, with a firm commitment to completing these projects on schedule. He also assured the people of Katsina that more government projects are in the pipeline to support the state’s development.
The Kano–Maradi railway was initially launched under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the Federal Executive Council approving $1.96 billion to fund the project in September 2020. President Tinubu’s reaffirmation of the government’s resolve to complete the railway by 2026 underscores the importance of regional transportation infrastructure in Nigeria’s broader economic strategy.
