The Federal Government has dismissed allegations of bias in the composition of its federal appointments, following recent claims made by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South. The Senator, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had accused President Bola Tinubu of violating the federal character principle in his appointments, a claim that the government swiftly denied.
In a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the government described the allegations as “unfounded” and “misleading.” The statement specifically addressed the concerns raised by Ndume, who had brought the issue to the public’s attention during a recent televised interview.
The government reaffirmed that all appointments made by President Tinubu are in full compliance with Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which outlines the federal character principle. The administration emphasized the commitment to fairness, equity, and national unity in all matters of governance.
The statement read in part:
“The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) wishes to address recent insinuations circulating, particularly on social media, regarding the composition of federal appointments. The government categorically refutes claims of lopsidedness and emphasizes its unwavering commitment to the principles of fairness, equity, and national unity. All appointments are made in strict adherence to the federal character principle, as enshrined in Section 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered).”
Additionally, the government highlighted President Tinubu’s strong belief in the unity of Nigeria, noting that he is guided by principles of fairness and justice when making appointments.
It further stated, “This Administration is dedicated to ensuring that all regions and demographics of the country are adequately represented in its institutions and agencies.”
The government urged the public to disregard what it referred to as “tendentious and unfounded allegations,” which it said were aimed at sowing division. It also advised Nigerians to rely on official sources for credible information regarding federal appointments.
In conclusion, the government assured the public that it remains committed to fostering a prosperous, united, and equitable Nigeria, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration. The OSGF was also designated as the official point of contact for any inquiries related to federal appointments.
