The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an intensive investigation following the reported attempt on the life of Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 25.
Ezenwafor was allegedly ambushed and shot by unidentified gunmen near Wuse Zone 2 in Abuja, while returning from a private engagement.
The attack has sparked public concern and renewed conversations around political violence and pre-election security.
Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that investigations are still ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
She urged members of the public who may have useful information to assist the Command in its efforts.
“The Command is actively investigating the incident and has not yet drawn definitive conclusions regarding the motives or perpetrators involved,” SP Adeh stated. “We call on individuals with credible information to approach the nearest police station. Public cooperation is critical to ensuring justice is served.”
This incident adds to the growing unease ahead of the high-stakes Anambra election, with many political observers calling for increased security measures and swift action against politically motivated violence.
The FCT Police assure residents and the public of their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and safeguarding the political process.
