FAAN Unveils Modern Domestic Cargo Terminal at Lagos Airport to Boost Logistics Efficiency

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commissioned a state-of-the-art domestic cargo terminal at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) in Lagos, in a strategic move to enhance Nigeria’s aviation logistics and domestic cargo operations.

The new facility was officially inaugurated on Friday in a ceremony led by FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku. Representing her at the event was the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Joy Agunbiade.

According to a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the development marks a major milestone in the agency’s broader effort to modernize aviation infrastructure nationwide.

Designed to improve scalability, safety, and operational efficiency, the terminal aims to ease long-standing challenges in domestic cargo handling, especially in the transportation of agricultural products and goods tied to Nigeria’s growing e-commerce sector.

“With rising demand for efficient logistics in e-commerce and agro-exports, the new facility offers a reliable, secure, and streamlined solution to domestic cargo processing,” FAAN noted in its statement.

By addressing key bottlenecks in cargo movement, the terminal is expected to boost the speed and reliability of goods delivery, supporting producers, exporters, and logistics providers across the country.

The project is a core component of a nationwide cargo infrastructure upgrade initiative driven by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and executed through FAAN’s Directorate of Cargo Development and Services under the leadership of Lekan Thomas.

Looking ahead, FAAN announced plans to replicate the model at other strategic airports, including those in Abuja, Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt.

“This roadmap ensures the development of a robust national air cargo network, with Lagos continuing to serve as a key hub in Nigeria’s air freight ecosystem,” the agency stated.
