“Even My Parents Called Me a Failure While I Battled Depression” – GoodGirl LA Opens Up About Her Journey

Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, widely known as GoodGirl LA, has broken her silence to speak candidly about a difficult chapter in her life—her struggle with depression and the powerful transformation that followed.

In a series of heartfelt posts on X (formerly Twitter), the Bless Me crooner revealed that during a period of deep isolation and emotional turmoil, she chose to retreat inward, focusing on self-mastery and spiritual transformation instead of chasing fame at any cost.

“I had periods of unavoidable isolation and just shit, so I charged it,” she wrote. “I focused on self-mastery and transmutation, all the while saying no to certain opportunities that n*ggas would kill for—because I stand for something.”

Despite being offered major deals that many artists dream of, GoodGirl LA turned them down, refusing to “sell her soul” or compromise her values just to fit in. Her decision, however, came at a heavy personal cost.

She shared that during this time, people around her—friends, industry peers, and even her own parents—began to view her differently.

“People called me crazy—lol, but I am. I’m a f*cking genius,” she wrote with defiance. “My ‘friends’ started to look down on me and pretty much just shenked me. Bruh, even my own parents did too. They called me a failure.”

That painful rejection, especially from her family, forced her to reevaluate what truly matters. Rather than chasing validation, she chose to anchor herself in her purpose: making meaningful music and impacting lives.

“It changed my view on what’s really important. I’ve seen how the world treats a young girl who’s trying to achieve greatness. The cheers and boos aren’t what any of this is about. It’s really all about the art, touching my Gs, and the world.”

Now 28, GoodGirl LA stands as a voice for authenticity, resilience, and artistic integrity. Her story is a powerful reminder that even in moments of darkness, choosing yourself can be the most radical act of all.
